Here’s the deal, though, that old Internet marketing cliche is completely true. List building and email marketing really are one of the best ways to make money online. There are few techniques that offer the promise and power of marketing to your own list. Here are a few of the reasons why list building is a great way to build an Internet marketing business.

First, research tells us that most people will not make a purchase until they’re exposed to a sales message multiple times. When you’re running a website without a list, you only get one shot at almost all of your businesses. When you have those same people on a mailing list, you have the chance to hammer home that message to increase your sales. It increases the effectiveness of your marketing and acts as the equivalent of a traffic multiplier.

Second, people prefer to buy from those they know and trust. That’s particularly true online where there is a cadre of scam artists about whom many customers may be worried. Building a list and staying in contact with it allows for the kind of relationship building that produces sales effectively. You can’t manage that level of connection unless you are in contact.

Other products are “one off” items that don’t lend themselves to relationship building in the same way. If you’re selling wedding invitations, for instance, the idea trying to make and maintain a long-term connection with those same individuals and marketing to them doesn’t really “click” the way it might in other situations.

So, there are times when list building just isn’t necessary? Not necessarily. There are times when it needs to be approached differently and when it might not be as profitable. It can still be used effectively, however.

List marketing doesn’t need to be an extended process featuring lifelong relationships and multiple product offers. You can organize an email follow up to prospects that focuses purely on logging that first sale. Instead of loading up your auto responder with a year’s worth of messages, you might try to hit your list with a shorter series of messages over a tighter time period. Will that create the kind of situation that advocates of relationship marketing envision? Not quite. But it can still book sales.

In other words, list building works. Period. It may work better in some situations than others, but room exists to make it valuable regardless of the exact situation under considerations. There are times when a marketer will have to take a slightly different approach and may need to draw a few buckets from the creativity well, but overall selling to a list always makes at least a modicum of sense.

I personally don’t care for the term ‘generate traffic’, why?

Because it sounds like you are trying to ‘drive traffic’ like a car on a highway. What you are really working at doing is bring new clients and customers to your website/blog. Not traffic

So just what are the ways to bring in those new clients/customers to your website/blog?

I know you’ve heard most of the steps, article marketing, posting to blogs and forums with a link in your signature line, getting out there on the social media like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and so forth. This is all good, but does it really work?

I see lots of people writing articles and posting them everywhere, why, because it works! The thing that most beginners miss, is doing the research with keywords, this is a MUST do. Target your audience with what they want/need. Don’t just write for writing purposes, keyword target your articles and your posts.

Now when it comes to posting in forums and on blogs, again, do your research, only post on quality forums and blogs within your niche/market, don’t just post anywhere. Use your keywords and find those targeted forums and blogs. You do this by going to http:google.com and type in the search box forum+keyword and you will come up with lots of forums targeting your keyword, do this also for your blog, type in the search box blogs+keyword to find the blogs that are targeted to your audience.

Today it is very popular to be on one of the social medias out there. Twitter so far has been the tops for when it comes to making and building relationships online. Don’t get overwhelmed with all the information out there today on Twitter, just get started. Head over to http://www.twitter.com and sign up, it’s free! Use your real name if possible and a real picture of yourself, no cartoon or avatar stuff, people want to interact with real people.

Once you are signed up, go to http://tweetdeck.com and download this software and use it! It’s FREE and will make tweeting much easier for you. You can do searches of with your keywords and see who else is tweeting about it and follow them, you might be surprised just how many will follow you back! In just a few days I got over 100 followers by using this method so I know it works!

Following these easy steps can and will definitely get you out there.

One more thing about bringing customers/clients to your website/blog, do not expect miracles over night to happen. All things good come to those that wait and are patient! Remember, McDonalds wasn’t built in a day, so how do you expect to build your business in a day? Take the time to do some research, build your foundation up, and pick ONE or TWO steps above to get started letting your customers/clients know where you are and how you can help them.

Only pick those generating you customers and clients, if you aren’t seeing the results you want or need, before giving up, find an expert or someone else to look at what you are doing before you give up. You just might not have it set up properly, and one little change can make all the difference in the world.

1. Create a 2 page website known as a squeeze page. One is your main site where visitors will sign up; the other page is your thank you page.
2. Get a way to keep these visitors information in a safe place. An auto responder service is the best to use.
3. Create a few messages in your auto responder thanking them for joining your list. Always offer valuable information and products to them
4. Write to your list regularly. It is said that a prospect needs to see the same offer at least 7 times before they will purchase anything. Keep this in mind when you are writing your messages.
5. Do Not hard sell your prospects. Keep your messages to the point and at the end of some of your messages add in a little note if they liked this information, then they should get this.

It’s really this easy to do; there isn’t much effort here to start building a list of reliable prospects once you understand the process. The problem most beginners find is that some of the steps are difficult for them. Such as building the 2 page website, they struggle here when there is no reason for it. There are lots of places online today that offer to show you how to build a simple website with a form on it.

Don’t let technical things get in your way to building your list. Find someone who can build the sites, set up the auto responders, and write good copy for you, if these are some of your stumbling blocks.

Some of these places can cost you a lot of money if you don’t research what is out there. If you are on a tight budget, then consider doing an exchange with someone.
